ATMIS and SNA Discuss Measures for Countering IEDs

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and Somali National Army (SNA) met to discuss measures for countering improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Al-Shabaab terrorists have repeatedly used IEDs in different parts of the East African nation to devastating effect.

The IEDs have killed or injured soldiers and innocent members of the public too.

Terrorists have continuously targeted government officials too.

They have added religious and traditional elders to the list of people to attack with IEDs around the country too.

ATMIS and SNA personnel met on November 11 to discuss strategies for countering IEDs.

Some of the measures they intend to implement include the enhancement of counter-IED capabilities.

They also intend to improve the capacity of the military to apply the element of speed and surprise in responding to actionable intelligence on terrorists’ activities in real time.
