ATMIS Calls for Increased Stability in Somalia

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has called for increased stability in the East African nation.

ATMIS issued the call on Monday a year on from its establishment in Somalia.

It took over from the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) a year ago.

Mohamed El-Amine Souef, the Chairperson of the AU Commission for Somalia, issued the call on April 3.

He spoke while leading the overview and review of the situation in Somalia.

Souef commended the increased offensives by the Somali government and ATMIS against terrorists in the country.

“Terrorist activities have reduced sharply in the past year in Somalia,” Souef stated.

“Nevertheless, we need to do more since the terrorists remain the single biggest threat to the peace and stability of Somalia,” he added.
