The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has declared a curfew in Halane Base Camp.
ATMIS announced the curfew on April 24.
A press statement from the organization announced that the curfew kicks off from April 25-28.
Interestingly, the curfew comes into effect at a time when Halane Base Camp is scheduled to host elections for the speakers and deputy speakers of both chambers of parliament.
House of the People (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House) legislators elect their speakers and deputy speakers this week.
In its press statement, ATMIS said that it imposed the curfew after consultations with the Office of the Prime Minister.
The statement by ATMIS indicates that the organization would be conducting a security exercise on the said dates.
ATMIS is closing the Base Camp for the second time in two weeks.
Initially, it closed the facility to secure the grounds ahead of the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected members of the Lower House and Upper House.
