ATMIS Discuss Impending Drawdown with US Military

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) discussed the impending drawdown of its troops with military officers from the United States.

Their meeting was on Friday.

Some of the ATMIS officers present included Sam Okiding, Maj. Gen. Peter Kimani, and others.

Their US counterparts included Lt. Gen. Jonathan Braga and Rear Admiral Jamie Sands.

ATMIS expects to reduce its troops in Somalia by 2,000 as of June 30, 2023.

The remaining troops would leave the country by the end of the year, as per United Nations resolutions.
