ATMIS Puts Halane Camp in Complete Lockdown Ahead of Presidential Elections

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has announced a complete lockdown at the Halane Base Camp ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.

Somalia holds presidential elections on Sunday, May 10.

A press release from ATMIS indicates that Halane Base Camp would be in a complete lockdown from May 10-16.

The presidential elections are scheduled to take place at Halane Base Camp.

Lawmakers from both chambers of the federal parliament will get an opportunity to elect the country’s new president.

ATMIS announced that it made the decision after consulting the Speaker of the House of the People (Lower House).

ATMIS undertook a similar exercise during last month’s swearing-in ceremony of Lower House and Senate (Upper House) legislators.

It then repeated the same procedure ahead of the election of the leadership of both chambers of the federal parliament.
