Attorney General Detains 20 Government Officers over Fraud

Somalia’s Attorney General, Dr. Suleiman Mohamed Mohamud, said that 20 government officials are in detention awaiting their day in court to answer fraud charges.

The officials were implicated in fraud allegations after investigations conducted jointly between the Attorney General and the Auditor General.

Dr. Suleiman added that the officials worked for the Ministry of Health, which was recently in the news for a scandal carried out by some of its staff.

AG Suleiman also issued warning to officers in other ministries who are involved in graft saying that they are also under investigation.

He identified the officers from the health ministry as Director Generals, departmental heads, and heads of various projects and programs.

Additionally, Suleiman said advisors and leaders of private firms involved in the scandal would also be brought before court to answer to the same charges.

Suleiman also indicated that his office has sufficient evidence showing that corrupt deals were conducted at the Ministry of Health.
