The Attorney General has summoned the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for an explanation regarding the oil deal that Somalia signed with a United States firm.
Engineer Abdirashid M. Ahmed, the petroleum minister, had signed the deal on behalf of Somalia.
He signed the deal in Istanbul with Coastline Exploration Limited last year.
Immediately afterward, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble spoke out strongly against the deal.
Eng. Ahmed has always insisted that Farmaajo and Roble were aware of the deal.
This week, the Chief Executive Officer of the American firm insisted that the oil deal was legally binding for up to 30 years.
Attorney General Suleiman Mohamed Mohamud has asked Eng. Ahmed to appear in his office on April 25 at 11am.
