African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf called for sustained international backing for Somalia during the Extraordinary Summit of Troop Contributing Countries to AUSSOM and Somalia in Entebbe.
“Somalia still needs our support,” Youssouf stated, praising the Federal Government’s progress against Al-Shabaab with ATMIS assistance.
However, he cautioned that the handover from ATMIS to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) must succeed, despite financial constraints and challenges in implementing UN Resolution 2719.
The AU Commission remains dedicated to mobilizing resources, but Youssouf emphasized: “A united effort from member states and partners is crucial to prevent the collapse of this vital African peace mission in Somalia.”
