AU Mission Head Promises to Monitor the Situation between Somalia and Kenya

Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, has promised to stay on top of the developing situation between Somalia and Kenya.

Recently, Somalia accused Kenya of meddling in its internal affairs. It stated that its Horn of Africa neighbor operates illegal missions in the country under the guise of AMISOM.

For its part, Kenya said that Somalia has breached its territorial integrity by fighting forces loyal to Jubaland’s fugitive minister, Abdirashid Janan in Mandera Town.

Mahamat said he would follow the situation after Somalia claimed that Kenya has failed to follow the laid-down procedures, instruments, and principles of the AU.

Following the phone call between Somalia’s President Farmaajo and Kenya’s President Uhuru last week on Thursday, the situation has somewhat cooled down.
