AU Peace Council Confirms Troop Contributors for AUSSOM

The African Union Peace and Security Council has officially endorsed Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda as the Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs) for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The mission will deploy nearly 12,000 personnel, with Uganda contributing 4,500 troops, Ethiopia 2,500, Kenya 1,410, Djibouti 1,520, and Egypt 1,091.

In a communiqué dated April 29, 2025, the Council reaffirmed its support for recent decisions made by the Somalia Operations Coordination Committee. It also raised alarm over ongoing financial constraints that threaten the mission’s effectiveness and called on AU member states and international partners to urgently mobilize additional resources.

The Council further appealed to global allies to maintain strong support for the Federal Government of Somalia and the AUSSOM mission in their continued fight against the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group, Al-Shabaab.
