AU Unveils New Vehicles in Somalia to Boost the Fight against Al-Shabaab

On Monday, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) unveiled a new fleet of vehicles designed to boost the fight against Al-Shabaab militants in the country.

The unveiling took place in Baidoa where Al-Shabaab has reemerged and began causing mayhem and disruption to life.

Lt. Gen. Tigabu Yilma, the Commander of AMISOM Forces in Somalia, said the newly acquired vehicles would enhance his troops’ operational capability.

AMISOM has increased its presence in Jubaland, HirShabelle, and Southwest states where Al-Shabaab has been wreaking havoc.

Further, AMISOM has earmarked the three states as Al-Shabaab hotspots.

Al-Shabaab militants have developed a reputation for using remote villages for recruiting and training youths before registering them as substantive fighters.
