The Auditor General has canceled the recent leasing of public land that belongs to the Somali Natonal Theater in Mogadishu to private entities.
Mohamed Ali, the Auditor General, canceled the lease on September 2.
Recently, Somalis were outraged to learn that Osman Dubbe, the Minister of Information and a close ally of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, had leased the land to private individuals.
Later, Dubbe denied leasing the land.
Nevertheless, Auditor General has called Dubbe’s actions unlawful.
He said that the decision to lease the land goes against the laws that govern public property. Auditor General also said that the lease was not in the interest of the public.
The Auditor General cited some of the directives that Dubbe’s action had violated. These included Farmaajo’s directive in 2018 on transfer of public land.
The directive issued from the Office of the Prime Minister in 2018 on “Federal Government Agreements with Companies or Institutions” had also been violated.
Allegedly, the information minister had leased the land to a group of businesspeople who wished to put up a restaurant.
