MOGADISHU — The Office of the Auditor General of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) today officially concluded a high-level, strategic workshop focused on Corruption Risk Assessment. The intensive three-day session, which took place from March 30 to April 1, 2026, brought together key financial oversight officials to refine and modernize national auditing frameworks.
Strengthening National Oversight
According to federal authorities, this targeted workshop is a core component of broader, ongoing efforts by the Office of the Auditor General to aggressively strengthen institutional transparency, strict financial accountability, and robust anti-corruption procedures across all levels of the government.
This latest initiative directly builds upon recent intensive training programs led by the Auditor General aimed at enhancing the technical capacity and legal compliance of national auditors. By systematically identifying and mitigating structural corruption risks before they materialize, the FGS is actively working to safeguard public resources and restore long-term civic trust in state institutions.
Proactive Anti-Corruption Measures
The institutional focus on proactive risk assessment arrives at a critical juncture for Somalia’s economic development. As the nation explores highly lucrative new revenue streams—such as offshore energy exploration and expanding tax bases—independent oversight has become increasingly vital.
This rigorous approach aligns closely with recent warnings from civil watchdogs like the Somalia Transparency Initiative, which stressed that absolute financial transparency is the only way to avoid the devastating economic pitfalls of the “resource curse.” By prioritizing these essential anti-corruption mechanisms, the Office of the Auditor General is firmly signaling to both domestic citizens and international partners that Somalia remains committed to fiscal discipline and the uncompromising rule of law.
