Auditor General to Investigate Ministry of Health over Lost Donor Funds

Mohamed Ali, Somalia’s Auditor General, is set to commence investigations on claims that the Ministry of Health has diverted donor funds.

Goobjoob News saw a letter to this effect. The AG sent the letter to the Ministry of Health, which is headed by Dr. Fawziya Abikar.

In the letter, AG Ali says that his office has commenced a forensic audit into the alleged misappropriation of funds by Dr. Abikar’s ministry.

Part of the letter read, “We understand that a suspected fraud might have occurred in the Ministry of Health where donor funds were diverted for personal use.”

However, it is instructive that the letter failed to go into the specifics of the allegations facing certain members of the health ministry.

Nevertheless, Mohamed Bulle, who was the Finance Director at the ministry, was arrested early last month. At the time, Dr. Abikar never provided reasons for his arrest.

Bulle was arrested alongside the ministry’s Director General.

The letter from the Auditor General’s office has listed Bulle and the Director General at the health ministry as suspects in the whole affair.
