African Union’s new mission to Somalia officially takes effect today, January 1, 2025.
The AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) takes over the responsibilities that previously belonged to the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
This marks a significant step in the AU’s ongoing support for Somalia’s stability and post-conflict recovery.
AU Special Representative Souef Mohamed El-Amine reaffirmed the Union’s dedication to assisting Somalia in its efforts to rebuild and stabilize after years of conflict.
This mission follows the successful implementation of the ATMIS operation and is expected to play a crucial role in the country’s long-term peace-building initiatives.
