AUSSOM Head Explores Stronger Security Cooperation with EASF in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya – On Tuesday, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Haji Ibrahima Diene, paid an official visit to the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the visit, Amb. Diene received a comprehensive presentation outlining EASF’s mandate, operational framework, and the progress it has achieved since its establishment in 2004. The briefing highlighted the force’s contributions to regional peace, security, and rapid response capabilities in times of crisis.

In his discussions with the EASF Director, Amb. Diene emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional collaboration between AUSSOM and EASF. Both sides explored new areas of cooperation, particularly in knowledge sharing, operational support, and coordinated peacekeeping strategies aimed at addressing evolving security challenges in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region.

The meeting underscored a shared commitment to enhance African-led solutions to security threats, reinforcing the principle of regional solidarity in peace support operations. Officials on both sides noted that deeper engagement between AUSSOM and EASF would help sustain gains made in Somalia while also building a stronger regional security framework.

Amb. Diene’s visit is seen as part of AUSSOM’s broader diplomatic outreach to foster partnerships with regional security institutions, ensuring that Somalia’s stabilization efforts are supported through coordinated and sustainable African initiatives.
