AUSSOM Leadership Engages China, UK on Strengthening Support for Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, has held separate courtesy meetings with the Ambassadors of China and the United Kingdom to Somalia.

Accompanied by Deputy SRCC Mouktar Osman Karie, AUSSOM Police Commissioner AIGP Hillary Sao Kano, and other senior mission officials, Ambassador Diene underscored the importance of sustained international backing for both Somalia and the newly established AUSSOM mission.

The discussions centred on bolstering coordination and exploring new avenues for collaboration in line with Somalia’s security transition and state-building priorities. Both meetings reaffirmed the commitment of China and the UK to supporting Somalia’s stability, governance, and development agenda.

AUSSOM, which is set to succeed ATMIS, is designed to provide targeted security, training, and institutional support to Somali authorities, while promoting closer partnerships with the country’s international allies.
