AUSSOM’s One-Year Mission Pivotal for Strengthening Somali Security Forces, Says Aweis

The Minister of Information of Somalia, Daud Aweis, emphasized the critical role of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in preparing Somali security forces to take full control of national security operations. Over its one-year mandate, AUSSOM will focus on training, capacity-building, and operational support to ensure a smooth transition.

Aweis stated that this mission is a decisive step toward restoring lasting peace and stability across Somalia, enabling Somali forces to independently counter security threats. The ultimate goal is to achieve a secure, sovereign Somalia free from external military dependence.

The statement reaffirms the Somali government’s commitment to long-term stability as African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), which is now known as AUSSOM gradually phases out, handing over security responsibilities to domestic forces.
