Baidoa, Somalia – As Eid al-Adha approaches, Baidoa’s livestock markets are witnessing a major surge in activity.
Over the last few days, thousands of people have been flocking Baidoa to buy goats and sheep ahead of the June 6 festivities.
Traders in Southwest’s interim capital say it’s one of the busiest seasons of the year, with demand peaking for sacrificial animals.
Market stalls are overflowing, and prices are rising as buyers rush to secure livestock in time for the Islamic holiday.
“This is the best time for business, as we usually prepare for this all year,” said Ahmed Yusuf, a longtime livestock seller.
Local officials noted the trade boost is also benefiting transporters, herders, and feed suppliers across the region.
