Baidoa, Somalia – A powerful 26th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Rahanweyn Resistance Army (RRA) was held in Baidoa on Friday, drawing community leaders, elders, and local residents.
The event served as both a commemoration and a moment of reflection on the RRA’s pivotal role in defending the people of South West Somalia during one of the nation’s most turbulent periods.
Speakers honored the sacrifices made by RRA fighters and leaders, highlighting their efforts to uphold justice, protect communities, and preserve Somali unity amid the civil war.
The anniversary comes at a time when the South West administration is working to reinforce peace, reconciliation, and inclusive development across the region.
The RRA was formed in the late 1990s to defend the rights of the Rahanweyn people, particularly during the height of the civil conflict when various factions sought control over southern Somalia.
