Baidoa authorities received a hospital that Ethiopian contingent of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has been renovating for some time.
Ethiopia’s forces handed over the facility to the regional authorities on December 3.
The Italian government had funded the rehabilitation works on the hospitals while AMISOM forces implemented the actual repair through its Quick Impact Projects (QUIPs).
Baidoa’s newly rehabilitated hospital specializes in treatment of tuberculosis (TB) and serves tens of thousands of patients from Bakool and Bay regions in Southwest State.
Meanwhile, the local community also received water wells from AMISOM.
Once again, the Italian government had funded the construction of the water wells, which are designed to help local communities by granting them access to clean and safe water.
Senior AMISOM officers and representatives from the local administration were at the event to receive the hospital and the water wells.
