Baidoa Residents Mark 1500th Anniversary of Prophet Muhammad’s Birth

Baidoa, Somalia – In a powerful display of faith and community spirit, hundreds of residents of Baidoa, the capital of Somalia’s Southwest State, gathered on Thursday to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The streets of Baidoa were filled with worshippers, religious scholars, elders, women, and youth who joined together in prayers, chants, and processions to honor the Prophet’s legacy. Many carried banners with verses from the Qur’an and messages of peace, reflecting the deep-rooted reverence for Islam in the region.

Local religious leaders addressed the gathering, urging the faithful to uphold the Prophet’s teachings of compassion, justice, and unity in their daily lives. They emphasized that the commemoration was not only a celebration of faith but also a reminder of the shared values that bind the community together, especially during times of hardship.

Southwest officials attended the event, underscoring the government’s support for cultural and religious expressions that strengthen social cohesion. They highlighted the significance of the anniversary as a unifying occasion at a time when Somalia continues to face security and humanitarian challenges.

For many participants, the commemoration was a moment of reflection and spiritual renewal.

“This anniversary is a blessing for us. It reminds us to stay true to our faith and support one another,” said one Baidoa resident who joined the celebrations with his family.

The 1500th anniversary marks a milestone of global significance for Muslims, but in Baidoa, it carried a distinctly local meaning—demonstrating resilience, unity, and devotion in the heart of Somalia.
