MOGADISHU, Somalia – The head of Somalia’s Federal Government, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, participated in a significant ceremony in Mogadishu today to mark the National Day of Qatar.
The function was held to honor the longstanding connections between the two countries prior to the official holiday later this month.
Qatar’s National Day, officially celebrated on December 18, commemorates the historic unification of the nation in 1878 by its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani.
The occasion serves as a tribute to the national identity, heritage, and principles that form the foundation of the State of Qatar.
During his speech, PM Barre offered sincere congratulations to Qatar’s leadership and citizens.
He expressed deep appreciation for the consistent and diverse support that the Qatari government has extended to the Somali people and their administration during pivotal periods of reconstruction and nation-building.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the relationship between Somalia and Qatar goes beyond conventional diplomatic ties; it represents a connection characterized by fraternity, collaborative efforts, and mutual advancement.
“The diplomatic, commercial, and developmental connections between Somalia and Qatar are progressively strengthening,” Prime Minister Barre remarked.
He observed that this expanding partnership mirrors the common interests of both communities and resonates with the shared development objectives of the two allied nations.
The Mogadishu gathering highlights the close diplomatic alliance between the two nations, with Qatar continuing to be an important partner in Somalia’s infrastructure projects and humanitarian initiatives.
