Beledweyne Airport Shut Down Following Plane Crash

The Federal Government of Somalia has shut down the Beledweyne airport, which was the scene of a plane crash that took place early this week.

Ugas Khalif Airport has been shut down temporarily.

The government took this measure after a Kenya-owned plane crash-landed at the airport while carrying food and medical supplies for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

All the three members of the plane’s crew were rescued and airlifted to Mogadishu for medical attention. However, the plane burnt at the runway where it crashed.

Ahmed Maalim Hassan, the Director of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Somalia said the airport would remain closed until investigations into the crash are complete.
