Beledweyne Elections Postponed over Security Fears

Parliamentary elections in Beledweyne were postponed as authorities expressed their fears over growing insecurity in the region.

Governor Ali Jeyte of the Hiran region confirmed this development to the public.

The elections were to take place in Beledweyne, one of the voting centers in the regional state of HirShabelle, on March 13.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that HirShabelle’s President Ali Gudlawe and his deputy are not in good terms; hence, the delay in conducting elections.

It’s not clear when the elections will take place.

Somalia’s National Consultative Council (NCC) set a deadline of March 15 for concluding elections for all House of the People (Lower House) seats.
