The Benadir Regional Appeals Court has upheld the sentences imposed on 36 foreigners accused of illegally fishing in the region.
The court confirmed the sentences on Monday.
Initially, a lower court had found the foreigners guilty of illegal fishing and imposed fines on them.
Each defendant was to pay a fine of $12,000. This would mean that they are all required to pay a total of $432,000.
The Appeals Court also confirmed the confiscation of the two boats the defendants used to commit the crime.
