Benadir Region Launches Road Repairs After Devastating Mogadishu Floods

Mogadishu, Somalia — The Benadir Regional Authority has initiated a large-scale road cleaning and repair operation in Mogadishu following recent devastating floods that left many parts of the capital submerged and critical infrastructure severely damaged.

The torrential rains, which caused widespread disruption across the city, particularly affected key roads, hindering transportation and access to essential services. In response, regional authorities have deployed teams to clear debris, unclog drainage systems, and begin repairing roads in the worst-hit neighborhoods.

Speaking to local media, officials emphasized the urgency of the intervention to restore mobility and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases. “This is part of our immediate response plan to bring normalcy back to Mogadishu,” said an official from the Benadir administration.

Residents welcomed the move but urged the government to invest in long-term flood prevention measures, including improved drainage infrastructure and urban planning.

The floods, triggered by unusually heavy seasonal rains, have affected thousands of families, many of whom are still in need of emergency assistance and shelter. Relief efforts are ongoing in coordination with humanitarian agencies.
