Berbera Oil Terminal (BOT) is to be transformed into a regional supply hub with more investments from Trafigura Group Pte Ltd.
Trafigura is a global leader in the commodities industry.
Early this week, it delivered the first shipment of low sulphur gasoil to Somaliland’s Port of Berbera.
The delivery followed a milestone agreement on storage that was signed early this year between Trafigura and the country’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism.
Trafigura said that the delivery and the agreement represents the first step towards position it as a regional supply hub.
Further, the firm announced plans to upgrade BOT with support from the government.
Mohamoud Hassan Saad, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Tourism, expressed pleasure at “working with a global company such as Trafigura.”
He said that the cooperation with Trafigura guarantees the country supply of a much better refined petroleum product.
