Nicolas Berlanga, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Somalia, recently held a meeting with a young Somali activist leading the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
On February 11, Ambassador Berlanga met Ifrah Ahmed, a young Somali activist.
Ahmed has been one of the leading crusaders against FGM, a practice that is widely practiced in the East African nation.
The activist’s life story was recently memorably captured in the film titled “A Girl from Mogadishu.”
During their Thursday meeting in the nation’s capital, Berlanga hailed Ahmed as a “dynamic woman” who is a cross between Somalia and Europe.
Ambassador Berlanga said that he was honored to meet Ahmed.
Furthermore, he praised the activist for allowing her past to inject her with energy to fight for girls’ rights.
