President Muse Bihi Abdi and President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo led Somalis in mourning a highly respected Grand Sultan of Somaliland who died on February 12.
Grand Sultan Mohamed Sultan Abdikadir died on Friday in Somaliland’s capital of Hargeisa.
There are no details regarding the cause of his death.
Bihi and Farmaajo led mourners in celebrating a man who played a crucial role in the religious and cultural aspects of Somalis in the region.
President Bihi described the late Grand Sultan as a “crucial figure” whose role in peace building efforts in Somaliland remain his biggest legacy.
Further, Bihi hailed his contribution in rebuilding Somaliland.
Similarly, Farmaajo described the late Grand Sultan as a “key figure who would be missed by Somalis who revere culture and traditional community.”
Thousands of mourners attended his funeral on Saturday.
The mourners who attended the funeral included government officials and representatives of various political parties.
