Bihi Appeals for $2 Billion to Help Victims of Hargeisa Market Fire Disaster

President Muse Bihi Abdi has appealed to the international community for a financial donation of $2 billion to support victims of the recent fire disaster at a Hargeisa market.

Waaheen Market in Somaliland’s capital went up in flames last week.

It left more than 2,000 business premises destroyed.

Authorities have placed the cost of the damage at $1.5-2 billion.

On April 6, Somaliland’s President Bihi issued an appeal for assistance to support the traders who lost their assets at Waaheen Market.

According to Bihi, the fire disaster affected almost every family in Hargeisa.

In his appeal, President Bihi stated that 5,000 small, medium, and large businesses felt the impact of the disaster, which also injured close to 30 people.
