Floods have caused plenty of destruction in Burao, Somaliland.
The floods, which the Gu rainy season caused, have left private and public buildings in Togder’s administrative capital heavily damaged.
Recent heavy rains in the region caused the Togder River to overflow. Subsequently, all the additional water washed away everything it encountered on its path.
Footage appearing on social media shows floodwater spreading like a wildfire and destroying parts of residential buildings and schools.
A heavy downpour battered the town from 9pm and continued until 5am.
The unprecedented levels of the Togder River have left residents and government officials bewildered.
Nevertheless, no casualties have been reported though authorities have advised locals to be cautious and avoid using flooded valleys or waterways.
