A regional court in Buroa has convicted two officers working at the Ministry of Finance of embezzlement.
The two officers worked at Buroa’s Inland Revenue Department.
They were arrested and arraigned in court on suspicion of misappropriating close to US$10,000 of public funds.
Togder Provincial Court found them guilty of the offence and sentenced them to three years imprisonment each.
Furthermore, they were ordered to return the money they stole.
The local administration has been carrying out comprehensive investigations on the use of public funds in the region.
It has done so with the assistance of the Office of the National Auditor General.
