Somali Government Announces New Ministers for Commerce and Public Works in Reshuffle

Mogadishu, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre conducted a limited cabinet reshuffle Saturday, introducing new heads to two critical government departments. The modifications impact the Ministry of Commerce and Industry along with the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing.

According to a proclamation presented by government spokesperson Abdinasir Ahmed Bashir, the Prime Minister announced that Jamaal Mohamed Hassan becomes the new Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Ayuub Ismail Yusuf takes on the role of Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing.

The executive order references Articles 97, 98, and 100 of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution as its justification.

These appointments resulted from discussions between the Prime Minister and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, focusing on advancing the government’s development priorities in economic and infrastructure domains.

The Prime Minister instructed the newly minted ministers to begin their duties immediately across their respective ministries. This directive becomes effective on December 13, 2025.

The cabinet changes aim to revitalize the administration’s initiatives to enhance commerce and reconstruct the country’s physical assets.
