A Canadian researcher and journalist is at the center of a storm in Somalia after he was accused of trying to kill a minister in the East African nation.
Jay Bahadur, the Canadian researcher, faces a raft of accusations that range from hacking the minister’s email to attempted killing.
Mohamud Hayir Ibrahim is the state Minister for Finance that’s accused Bahadur of not only hacking his email but also attempting to organize his murder.
Ibrahim said that Bahadur worked closely with a non-governmental organization (NGO) to take his personal email account down.
These accusations come after Bahadur published an investigative report through Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (Giato) last month.
In the report, Bahadur said that Ibrahim was one of the top government officials in Somalia carrying out illegal and unregulated fishing in the Indian Ocean.
He also named Abdilahi Bidhan Warsame, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, in his report.
