Chaos in Parliament as HirShabelle Elects Another Senator

Chaos erupted in the HirShabelle Regional Parliament on September 18 while parliamentarians elected yet another senator.

On Saturday night, parliament met to continue with the elections for the Upper House seats.

During the session, chaos broke out thus disrupting the elections that were already in progress.

According to sources, the cause of the chaos was the defeat that Ali Sha’ban, a close ally of HirShabelle’s President Ali Gudlawe, suffered.

Siraaji Sheikh Ishaq, the HirShabelle Deputy Speaker, promised that the lawmakers who were responsible for the chaos would face disciplinary measures soon.

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali Afa’adey emerged victorious in the polls.

Afa’adey received 52 votes while his closest rival and the incumbent, Mohamed Amin Sheikh Osman, garnered 44 votes.
