Chief Justice Bashe Yussuf Ahmed has issued a set of tough guidelines to help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in Somalia.
Courts in Somalia are accepted to implement the new guidelines immediately.
CJ Bashe directed all criminal proceedings to be conducted through video conferencing rather than taking place in the courtrooms.
Furthermore, he also asked for the handling and resolving of all simple cases in police stations. CJ Bashe extended the period when the hearings for all civilian cases remain suspended.
As of today, Somalia has confirmed seven positive COVID-19 cases. It has the least number of infections in the East Africa region.
