The Chief of the Turkish General Staff, Gen. Metin Gürak, has arrived in Mogadishu on an official visit.
His arrival, on Sunday, marks a significant moment in the growing military partnership between Somalia and Türkiye.
Lt. Gen. Odawaa Yusuf Raage, the Somali National Army (SNA) commander was at the Aden Adde International Airport to accord his Turkish counterpart a warm reception.
They were joined by the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, and other officials highlights.
The presence of these dignitaries at the airport signifies the importance both nations place on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the realm of defense and security.
This visit underscores Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts to rebuild its military capabilities and enhance stability in the region.
Over the years, Türkiye has been a key partner for Somalia, providing training, equipment, and infrastructure development, including the construction of a major military base and training facility in Mogadishu.
The deepening military cooperation between the two countries is expected to contribute to Somalia’s fight against terrorism, particularly in countering groups like Al-Shabaab, and to bolster overall security in the Horn of Africa.
