China has rubbished this week’s efforts to revive diplomatic relations between Somaliland and Taiwan because the latter was not a separate state but part of its territory.
This week’s public statements by the governments of Somaliland and Taiwan have attracted the ire of the Chinese administration.
China’s Embassy to Somalia released a statement dismissing the renewed diplomatic relations between the two nations in which it said, “There is only one China.”
The Chinese embassy made these sentiments known on Twitter.
In one of its tweets, the embassy said China would never permit any person, organization, or political party to hive off any part of its territory.
It insisted that Taiwan remains an “unalienable part of China.”
The latest development comes after Taiwan and Somaliland officials signed a pact on Wednesday that allows them to establish diplomatic representation in each other’s territory.
