CID Chief Represents Somalia at Jordan Security Conference

Amman, Jordan – Somalia’s Chief of Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Brigadier General Mukhudin Ahmed Mohamed, participated in a high-level regional security conference in Jordan that focused on addressing the challenges of irregular migration and transnational organized crime.

The conference brought together senior law enforcement officials and migration experts from across the Middle East and Africa, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and intelligence sharing in the fight against human smuggling and trafficking networks.

During his address, Brig. Gen. Mukhudin outlined Somalia’s ongoing efforts to combat irregular migration and related crimes. He emphasized the progress made by Somali law enforcement agencies in dismantling trafficking syndicates operating within and across its borders.

He highlighted recent crackdowns on smuggling routes, increased maritime surveillance, and the establishment of specialized anti-trafficking units under the Somali Police Force (SPF).

“Somalia is both a source and transit country for irregular migration, which makes regional collaboration not just necessary, but urgent. Criminal networks do not recognize borders. To counter them, our cooperation must be equally transnational and proactive,” said Brig. Gen. Mukhudin.

The Somali delegation also held bilateral meetings with counterparts from Jordan, Egypt, Djibouti, and Ethiopia to discuss joint strategies and capacity-building initiatives.

Brig. Gen. Mukhudin called for enhanced information sharing mechanisms, joint investigations, and the provision of technical support and training for frontline officers in countries most affected by migration-related crimes.

The conference concluded with a joint declaration reaffirming participating countries’ commitment to strengthening law enforcement coordination, improving migration governance, and upholding the rights of vulnerable migrants.

The participation of Somalia’s CID chief underscores the country’s growing role in regional security dialogues and its commitment to countering transnational threats through cooperation and reform.
