Clerics Killed in Clan Attack in Warsheikh

Warsheikh, Somalia – At least four Islamic clerics were killed and four others wounded in a suspected clan-based attack in the Warsheikh district of Middle Shabelle region, local officials confirmed on Thursday.

The victims had reportedly traveled to the area to lead a Qur’an recitation ceremony when gunmen opened fire on them.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers are believed to be affiliated with a rival clan, sparking fears of renewed inter-clan tensions in the region.

Authorities have launched an investigation, though no arrests have been made. Local leaders have called for calm and urged residents to avoid retaliation as mediation efforts begin.

Clan-based violence remains a persistent challenge to peace and reconciliation in Somalia, despite ongoing efforts by the federal and regional administrations.
