Clinic Shut Down in Hargeisa Over Alleged Fatal Prescription Error

Hargeisa, Somaliland – The Somaliland Ministry of Health has officially shut down a private clinic in Hargeisa after reports surfaced that a patient died allegedly due to a wrong prescription issued by the facility.

According to a statement released by the ministry on Sunday, the action follows an initial investigation into the incident, which reportedly occurred last week. The deceased patient, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, is said to have suffered fatal complications shortly after receiving treatment from the now-suspended clinic.

Authorities say preliminary findings suggest medical negligence may have contributed to the death, particularly the administration of a prescription that was either incorrect or harmful to the patient’s condition. The ministry emphasized that it is taking the matter seriously and has launched a comprehensive inquiry to determine whether the clinic violated national healthcare standards and protocols.

“The clinic will remain closed until the investigation concludes. We are committed to ensuring public safety and holding accountable any health institution that fails in its duty of care,” part of the statement from the ministry read.

Public outcry has grown on social media, with many Somalilanders demanding stricter oversight of private healthcare facilities. Citizens and rights activists have called on the Ministry to increase inspections and enforce tougher penalties for malpractice.

This incident highlights growing concerns about the regulation of health services in Somaliland, where many residents rely on private clinics for urgent care due to limited public health infrastructure.

The Ministry of Health has assured the public that it will provide updates as the investigation progresses and pledged to take further action if wrongdoing is confirmed.
