A former President of the Federal Republic of Somalia who passed away in Kenya reportedly died of COVID-19.
Authorities have now confirmed that Ali Mahdi Muhammad, who lost his life in Nairobi, had been admitted for COVID-19 treatment.
Ismael Omar, a spokesperson with the Ministry of Information, confirmed the news to the public on Wednesday evening.
Muhammad was the President of Somalia from January 1991 to January 1997.
When news of his death earlier broke out, it was not clear what had killed the former president of the East African nation.
Ex-President Muhammad becomes the latest prominent Somalia leader to lose his life to the deadly disease.
