Ilhan Omar has won reelection for her third term in office in the midterm elections held on Tuesday, November 8 across the United States.
Omar was the first Somali American woman to be elected to the US Congress. Since then, she has emerged victorious in the subsequent elections.
Consequently, she will be representing the Fifth Congressional District, which covers all of Minneapolis and a few inner-ring suburbs too.
After she was pronounced the winner, Omar promised to continue fighting for all her constituents regardless of the candidate they voted for.
Some of the issues on which Omar based her candidature include access to abortion services, cancellation of student loan debts, and protection of the environment.
