The construction of the Mogadishu-Afgooye Road resumed on Saturday.
On Sunday, engineers from Turkey arrived at the site with their heavy-duty equipment to resume the road’s construction after months when nothing happened.
Qatari government has funded the construction of this vital 120-kilometer road.
The road’s construction is one of the largest projects the administration of President Mohamed Farmaajo has undertaken since getting into office.
The government signed a US$200 million agreement with the Qatari Investment Authority in November 2017 to build the road.
Apart from the main highway, the project also entails constructing other link roads, such as Mogadishu-Jowhar and Mogadishu-Afgooye.
Previously, works on the road had to be suspended after 11 people, who included four Turkish nationals, were killed while 20 others were injured in a suicide car bomb attack.
The insecurity forced authorities to stop the construction works.
However, now the authorities seem to have brought everything under control and boosted security in the region to enable workers to proceed with their job.
