Jubaland’s Council of Elders have rejected the recently signed Reconciliation Accord between President Ahmed Madobe and his political rivals.
The Council called the accord a “reunion” of a few former members of the Raskanbooni Brigade. It said the accord had nothing to do with the sort of reconciliation the state needs.
This news comes as a blow to Madobe and his political rivals who had received widespread applause and recognition for setting their differences aside to agree to a common cause.
Further, the Council of Elders referred to the accord as a “Kenyan-brokered deal” that Somalia’s East African neighbor was only using to settle the acrimonious Somalia-Kenya maritime row.
Additionally, it also questioned the credibility of the August 2019 elections, which saw Madobe elected Puntland’s new president.
The Council released a letter that asked members of the international community to desist from meddling in Jubaland’s domestic affairs.
