Council of Ministers to Meet on Saturday to Discuss Somalia-Kenya Relations

Somalia’s Council of Ministers meets on December 5 in an extraordinary session to discuss the deteriorating relations with Kenya.

A communiqué from the Office of the Prime Minister stated that the ministers would discuss the recent decisions the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) took against Kenya.

Further, they are also expected to discuss the decision taken against Jubbaland.

Reports from Mogadishu indicate that Jubbaland was to be treated as an “enemy-controlled territory” after the government accused it of being under Kenya’s control.

Saturday’s extraordinary meeting of cabinet ministers comes a few days after the government expelled Kenya’s Ambassador to Somalia.

It also takes place in the same week that the government recalled Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya.

Over the last 2-3 years, the relations between Kenya and Somalia have continuously broken down.
