A court in Somalia has ordered FAVORI LLC, a Turkish firm that operates the ports and airport in the country, to reinstate a Somali employee it sacked.
Banadir Regional Court ordered the Turkish firm to not only reinstate but also compensate the employee for wrongful dismissal.
The court passed its ruling on this matter on February 20.
In its ruling, the court directed FAVORI to reinstate Abshir Hassan Abdulle in his job as a porter.
Abdulle had been sacked by his employer from Aden Adde International Airport, which was his workstation.
The matter was brought before the Banadir Regional Court by the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU).
Omar Faruk Osman, the Secretary General of FESTU, welcomed the verdict by the court terming it a “small victory” for the oppressed Somali worker.
