Court Sentences 10 People Involved in the Deadly Mogadishu Central Prison Attack

A military court sitting in Mogadishu handed wide-ranging sentences to 10 people involved in the deadly Mogadishu Central Prison attack in August 2020.

Soldiers were part of the 11 who were in court to answer charges of involvement in the attack.

In August, over 15 people died when Al-Shabaab prisoners launched an attack to facilitate their attack from the prison.

Idle Ibrahim Mubarak was sentenced to death, even though he was absent from court.

A prison guard known as Ali Barre Ali Mohamed was sentenced to 3 years in jail. Mohamud Nur Isaq was sentenced to serve 5 years in a military prison.

Abdullahi Moalim Hussein, Mohamed Dahir Mohamed, and Abdi Jire Yusuf were each sentenced to five years in prison and expelled from working for Custodial Corps.

The military court also handed a prison sentence of 6 months each to Mohamed Nur Maadey, Mohamed Mohamud Matan, Omar Hassan Abtidon, and Isaq Gedi Ibrahim.
