On Sunday, Somalia announced that a second patient has died of COVID-19. Officials identified the dead Somali as Khalif Mumin Tohow, who was the Justice Minister in Hirshabelle State.
Tohow succumbed to the virulent disease in Martini Hospital in Mogadishu one day after testing positive to Coronavirus.
The Vice President of Hirshabelle State, Ali Gudlawe Hussein, confirmed news of the minister’s death to the media.
Local media and health officials say the Somali British had traveled to the United Kingdom in February 2020 before returning to the Horn of Africa nation recently.
His death comes a few days after the country confirmed its first COVID-19 death on Wednesday.
The country’s health ministry has confirmed over 20 COVID-19 cases, which include several employees working for the Federal Government of Somalia.
